3rd Keynote - Thierry C. continued

Thierry is raising a valid question about the languages used in presentations and publications within CALL. In his examinations he has found very little published in other languages than English or having to do with the teaching of other languages than English. So are we in fact creating yet another TESOL conference?

3rd Keynote - Thierry C. continued

Thierry takes a look at the history of ReCALL as part of the memory lane of the 20 years of Eurocall. The audience joins him in applaudes to thank June Thompson for her immense input in making the ReCALL journal what it is today.

3rd Keynote - Thierry Chanier

Thierry is looking at the multilinguality of Eurocall and ReCALL. He is also asking us to reply to his questionnaire, link seen on the slide below:

Still pictures in the meanwhile... no live streaming available

We continue to have technical problems with the live streaming, we truly apologise for this. The recordings will be made available as soon as is humanely possible. We will announce their availability the moment they come online. Here are some soundbites in visual format from the keynote today.

Telecollaboration - barriers and bridges to integration of online intercultural exchanges

We are left with several urgent and challenging questions and pedagogical dilemmas after Simon Ensor's presentation, based on studies done together with colleagues in international collaboration in a teaching network with Poland, France and the UK. You'll find the presentation here at: bit.ly/14wwzFJ. Existing discourses among teachers, the role of spaces for learning (such as formal and informal), and the potential need for us to revisit and re-think our practices are just a few of the issues raised.

Evaluation and re-use of OERs - Hélène Pulker from the Open University, UK

Hélène Pulker from The Open University, UK, has just presented her case study of teachers' use of OERs, and what beliefs their use were grounded in. Hélène adopted McGrath's (2002) notions of adaptation, regarding teachers' use and reasoning - leading to using OERs as add-on resources or using them for change. She gave several concrete examples of how teachers had addressed the OERs created and available in LORO. Resources in LORO are given in several languages and at different levels following the CEFR (loro.open.ac.uk).
Ana is taking us through some of the finer points in CAMILLE, eg the tools available to students such as an interface offering a raft of source languages, while the teachers had access to an online assessment and monitoring system.
The next step change came in the shape of inGenio in 2000, the first completely online dedicated CALL authoring tool. This meant moving from off-the shelve courses to giving teachers free software to create bespoke courses/materials.
Okay... Let's see what happens. Cover-it-live is now active here: .... or not. Sorry. Please hold, we are working on it...

First keynote by Ana Gimeno: the Graham Davies lecture : Lessons learnt from the past and future expectations in CALL. Ana is taking us on a trip down memory lane, starting with the pioneers of 1992 (June Thompson, Graham Davies, Bernd Rüschoff to name but a few) and the first European project, CAMILLE (Computer-Assisted Multimedia Interactive Language Learning)

Technical glitches...

Hi folks! We are having some technical problems with the live stream. We are hoping to get it all sorted, but may need to resort to Plan B. This means the quality of the streaming won't be that good, but at least it will be real time. All the keynotes will for sure be available as recordings soon. I will keep you posted.
